Shelterlogic Garages? Read this before you Buy!

A former Shelterlogic garages dealer tells all! Find out why we decided to discontinue our Shelter series by Shelter Logic.

For those of us who do not know, Original Shelters discontinued their product selection of ShelterLogic garages. After several years of successful shelter sales for this manufacturer, Original Shelters felt there was no other course of action. This decision was based on several factors, but quality was the primary concern.

Having first hand knowledge of Shelterlogic portable shelters and garages, we can no longer offer their garages and shelters for sale. Their quality isn’t what it should be for the price! With that said, let me say this — Shelterlogic does have some descent fabric products. Their pop up canopies, shed in a box fabric sheds, and shelter accessories do offer good quality and value.

Even some of their portable garages such as “Shelter Tube and Shelter Tech” are descent quality as well. However, Shelterlogic garages in standard material (9 ounce) with powder-coated frames simply do not hold up under weather conditions that most portable garages are subjected too.

Our new portable garage line, Rhino Shelter has replaced our ShelterLogic Garage line. Rhino Shelters are far better quality and value than Shelterlogic Garages. Built of all steel frames from galvanized steel tubing. Unlike Shelterlogic portable garage frames that use cheaper recycled steel that has been powder-coated to appear galvanized, Rhino Shelter’s use only true hot-dipped galvanized steel.

Rhino Shelter covers are made of heavy-duty 10-ounce rip-stop polyvinyl fabric with extra UV-resistant treatment and fire-retardant chemicals. Their material is made of three layers – the outer weatherproof coating that comes in a number of different colors, a black middle layer that blocks out both visible sunlight and ultraviolet rays, and a white inner layer.and rip-stop covers (10 ounce). Rhino shelters are built for the long-haul unlike Shelterlogic garages!

So you’ve purchased your first mobile carport, congratulations! Not only will your vehicle be secured from the harsh outdoors, but you’ll also obtain useful storage space. That being said, with all the benefits that go along with mobile carports, there are likewise some risks. Keep these wellness tips in mind as you established and portable garage use your carport.

Keeping a Safe Distance– As you begin setting up your portable carport, bear in mind to keep it a safe distance from your home. Initially, this might appear absurd; you want your mobile shelter as close to the house as possible so you can quickly get to your vehicle in inclement weather condition. As much as this might be real, you likewise wish to keep your home safe from possible car fires. If for some reason your car catches fire, the carport will quickly increase in flames. The last thing you desire is your house igniting, too. This is precisely what occurred to a Florida homeowner when her carport caught fire. Flames quickly infected the house, but fortunately the firemen responded fast sufficient to put out the flames prior to they triggered any severe damage.

Appropriate Ventilation– If you have an electric automobile starter and you like to get the automobile heated up or cooled down prior to you jump in, see to it your mobile carport has a lot of ventilation. Much like running a vehicle in a covered garage, running a vehicle that is parked inside a closed carport is just as unsafe. Harmful fumes can build up in any sealed up carport when a car is running, causing problem breathing and, in extreme cases, fatality. If you’re intending on letting your automobile run, ensure you install additional ventilation in your carport. By setting up extra ventilation, you’ll ensure that the air is safe from hazardous fumes.

Storage– Last but not least, do not keep anything valuable, except your car that is, in your portable carport. The reason for this is basic. If someone is observing your property, they are much more most likely to get into a carport than the house itself. That being said, no valuables need to be stored in the mobile shelter. If you’re making use of the shelter for additional storage, we recommend that you maximize space in your existing garage by moving fewer valuables to the portable shelter.

Carport For Sale: Buying Guide

, , ,

You most likely learned about the appeal of portable carports when you chose to buy one, however what you may not have recognized is simply the number of selections you ‘d have. So if you’re having some problem identifying which model that’s right for you, look into the following guide. When you understand more about your alternatives, it will be a lot easier to select a garage or carport shelter capable of satisfying your requirements.

Part 1: Finding the Right Size

Figuring out the size of the carport you need might appear a bit daunting, but it’s really not that complex. There are simply three things you have to think about when choosing a size:

Exactly how many vehicles do you require to protect?

Certainly you have to know the number of automobiles, watercraft’s, or ATV’s you have to shield due to the fact that each one requires its own area. However, it’s also important to keep in mind that you’re going to need to leave room to maneuver if you prepare to park more than car under your portable carport. There’s no guideline governing exactly how much area you should allot for each car; your area requirements will vary depending upon the size of the car, the sort of car it is (a watercraft connected to a trailer is going to be much more unwieldy than a vehicle or truck), and your personal preferences.

What are the measurements of the car or vehicles you need to shelter?

Regardless of whether you’re going to be keeping one vehicle or 2, you have to know the measurements of the vehicles you will put underneath your garage. These measurements do not need to be exact; you’re simply attempting to obtain a rough estimate of the overall amount of space the automobiles will use up. And if you’re going to be keeping cars or trucks, it’s usually a great idea to add a couple of feet to your length and width total amounts to enable room for the opening of car doors and trunks. You likewise need to know the height of the tallest automobile you’ll be storing in order to make certain you get a carport with adequate clearance.

How much space is readily available?

It’s essential to choose a place for your portable garage prior to your search. The crucial thing is to make certain that your carport will fit easily into the area you’ve selected for it, not simply having the ability to squeeze into it. If you pick a shelter that’s too big, it will make the rest of your home feel cramped.

Part 2: Construction Materials.

The materials made use of to build your portable garage influence its strength, weight, and price. The info below will help you identify what sort of frame and cover are right for you.

Frames.

Because instant garages and carports are created with a focus on light-weight strength, the most usual frame product is steel. It’s generally chosen over other metals due to the fact that of its superior durability. When comparing various brands and versions, the finest thing to do is take a look at the diameter of the steel utilized to build the frame. Typically speaking, the bigger the diameter of the steel tubing, the stronger and sturdier the carport is going to be.

You might be questioning why you wouldn’t automatically select the portable carport built with largest diameter of steel. The primary reason is that shelters making use of bigger diameter steel are more expensive, so they’re not as practical if you’re on a tight budget plan. They’re also heavier, making them much less convenient if you’re going to be moving your garage often. You’ll need to decide if the additional strength is worth the extra expense and weight. If you’re preparing to leave your shelter up for long periods or are going to be using it for business purposes, then it could be a great idea to go with a bigger diameter, but if you’ve got more laid-back use in mind it may not be worth it.

Covers.

Carport covers are generally made from polyester or polyethylene. Polyethylene is by far the preferred product since it does a better job of filtering out UV rays and retains more of its strength. Regrettably, it is also the more pricey of the two materials, so polyester might be a better selection if you’re trying to minimize expenses. Once again, you’ll require to choose whether durability or economy is more crucial.

Part 3: Should I Assemble My Carport Myself?

The response to that question relies on exactly how much effort you’re eager to put into establishing your shelter. Portable shelters are particularly developed to be simple to put together and usually can be found in ready-to-use kits; it’s one of their main advantages over traditional garages and carports. As long as you’ve got some basic devices and somebody going to offer you a hand, you should not have any troubles putting one together. If, nevertheless, you deal with DIY-phobia or would just rather not have to take care of setting up your brand-new purchase, working with an installer is definitely a choice. Simply keep that in mind doing this is going to enhance your total expenses which you’ll probably need to make plans well in advance of when you’ll have to use your shelter.

A Note About Permits: Portable garages do not typically require structure permits, however it’s always best to learn exactly what your city government’s policies are before making a purchase. Your town’s community department must be able to supply you with the information you require.

Part 4: Accessories.

Auger-Style Anchors – These are ideal for usage in yard, clay, asphalt, and unpacked soil. Their corkscrew design is very easy to utilize and they supply a very reliable hold. It’s likewise possible for you to get rid of and reuse them when you wish to move your carport.

Hook Anchors – This sort of anchor can be used in yard, clay, gravel, asphalt, and hard-packed or rocky dirt. They are easy to use and don’t require digging or create large holes the way that auger-style versions do. Nevertheless, they’re not reusable so you ‘d really only want to utilize them in irreversible setups.
Cement and Concrete Anchors – If you’re planning to use your garage on a cement or concrete surface area this is the type of anchor you would need. They supply a really strong hold, but are certainly only appropriate for long-term installations.

Sidewall Kit – If you’re looking to provide your shelter some additional weather defense, you might wish to consider investing in a sidewall or enclosure kit. These enable you to change your carport into a completely confined area and make it more like a conventional storage structure. Kit elements vary, however the majority include 3 walls and a door. Some manufacturers do provide kits with two doors.

Part 5: Choosing Without Fear.

You now have all of the info essential to successfully browse through the world of portable garages and carports. As long as you take a little bit of time to consider your needs prior to beginning your search, finding the best portable garage or instant carport kit will be a fast and easy job.
